I build oversized wall clocks as future heirlooms: solid hardwood pieces with sculptural presence, hand-shaped details, and a sense of permanence that mass-produced decor cannot offer.
The featured clock shown here reflects the qualities I pursue in every build: visual balance, figured hardwood, carved detail, and a finish that gives the surface depth as light moves across it. The quilted maple face becomes the signature of the piece, with a chatoyance that makes it feel alive on the wall.
Cherry, walnut, maple, and other hardwoods each bring their own temperament to the work. Hand-carved numerals, carefully chosen figure, and durable finishes are used not just for ornament, but to create clocks that age gracefully and reward close attention over time.
My clocks are made to endure. They are oversized statement pieces, but they are also intimate objects: made to be noticed every day, to gather meaning in a home, and to become the kind of furniture people associate with a particular room, house, or period of life.
All of my oversized wall clocks are crafted from solid hardwoods such as cherry, walnut, and maple. I am drawn especially to wood with vivid natural figure because the grain itself becomes part of the design language. Hand-carved Roman numerals, resin-filled details, and careful shaping are used to emphasize character unique to each constituent piece of wood.
The face of each clock is finished for clarity, durability, and depth, while the body is brought to a warm, tactile sheen that lets the wood remain recognizably alive. I want the finish to protect the piece, but never to bury the grain beneath a generic, plastic look.
These clocks sit somewhere between timepiece, furniture, and wall art. They are meant to anchor a room, reward close viewing, and feel more personal with age. The goal is not novelty for its own sake, but a lasting object with enough beauty and individuality to be worth keeping.
